7th Networking Happy Hour: Astrid Siohan at SMEG Headquarters

The 7th Monaco Women Network Happy Hour took place on Tuesday, October 21st, 2025 at the newly inaugurated headquarters of SMEG, offering participants a rare opportunity to explore the heart of Monaco’s energy transition.With a stunning panoramic terrace overlooking the sea and the Rock, the setting itself reflected the tone of the evening: forward-thinking, serene, and impactful.

The event opened with remarks from Laurence Garbatini, Head of Communications and External Relations at SMEG, who highlighted Monaco’s vision:

"The energy transition is a shared responsibility. Monaco is leading with ambition, innovation, and pragmatic action."

Valentina Colman, founder of the Monaco Women Network, then introduced Astrid Siohan, Director of Urban Heating & Cooling Networks at SMEG and keynote speaker of the evening.

Through a dynamic discussion, Astrid shared the major initiatives reshaping the Principality’s energy system:

• Thalassothermal energy, which uses the stable deep-water temperature of the Mediterranean to heat and cool buildings all year round.

• Waste heat recovery, capturing and repurposing the thermal energy produced during waste treatment.

• The progressive replacement of fossil fuels with interconnected, low-carbon energy solutions.

Astrid also emphasized SMEG’s educational mission, which includes opening technical sites to students and offering training opportunities to encourage new generations to join the sustainable energy sector.
