Ambassador Profile: Prof. Giovanna Tinetti

Giovanna Tinetti is a Professor of Astrophysics and Head of Astrophysics Group at University College London. She is the scientific leader (Principal Investigator) of the Ariel mission, a space telescope to be launched in 2029 that will study the atmosphere of hundreds of planets around stars in our galaxy. She is also founding director of Blue Skies Space Limited, an innovative UK company aiming to build space science missions through private funding, as opposed to the model of full public funding for science facilities. She has a PhD in theoretical physics from the U. of Turin (Italy) and has authored more than 250 academic publications.


She was the recipient of the Monte-Carlo Woman of the Year Special Award in 2022 on the 10th year anniversary of the event, for her work in identifying water vapor in the atmosphere of an Earth-like planet outside our solar system.
